Mission:
A Fondness For
Location: Location: USS Albion – Main Transporter Room
Timeline: Immediately following shuttle Alpha Three’s arrival orbit
:ON:
::The transporter hum faded as Captain Emily Jones Janeway stepped off the pad, boots hitting the deck with practiced certainty. She shifted the weight of her marine rucksack, dog tags glinting under the lights—still carrying the quiet engraving she’d added years ago: adopted daughter of the Janeway family namesake. Albion never questioned it. That alone made stepping back aboard feel like coming home.::
Janeway ::nodded to the transporter chief:: “Chief. Report on Alpha Three?”
Transporter Chief ::glanced at his console:: “Standard orbit over Cumulonimbus Five, ma’am. Passenger—civilian, Charles Star—being prepped for beam-up now. Captain Sprague cleared the transfer.”
Janeway ::raised an eyebrow, a small, knowing smile:: “Hawaiian shirt on the manifest?”
Chief ::chuckled:: “Aye, ma’am. Bold choice for a Starfleet shuttle.”
Janeway ::tapped her combadge as she moved toward the doors:: =/= Janeway to Marine Operations. This is the CO—I’m back aboard and resuming command. XO Slr’el, have the detachment muster in the ready room in twenty. Security sweep on the new arrival once he materializes; standard protocol, but keep it friendly. =/=
::She paused at the threshold, glancing back at the empty pad where she’d just arrived.::
Janeway ::quietly, almost to herself:: “Mom used to say the hardest part of command was knowing when to trust the quiet. Guess we’re testing that theory again.”
::The doors hissed open. She stepped through, already mentally running marine readiness checklists. Whatever came next—whether reality held or cracked open once more—the Albion’s marines would be ready.::
