::The violet nebula continued its slow dance overhead as the humidity pressed on.MCO Captain Janeway checked her broken Federation-issue watch — the chronometer had given up hours ago. It was well past dinner time. She pulled out her camping thermos, a couple of small sardine-can-sized self-heating military rations, and her trusty old army-style can opener. With a few quick twists she had one open, the smell of rehydrated stew mixing with the damp air. Her dog tags clinked softly as she took the first bite.::
Janeway ::dry, raspy, between spoonfuls:: “Watches are dead, it’s definitely past dinner, and we’re still playing bouncer for sunbathers. Bon appétit.”
Nabarati ::rifle low, glancing over:: “Another group testing the line, Captain. Humidity’s still helping, but they’re getting louder.”
Valentino ::overwatch:: “nothing else is happening on Admiral still . No interesting movement yet.”
Young Marine ::eyeing the tiny cans hopefully:: “Any chance one of those sardine-sized tins is for the detachment, ma’am? This steam room detail is working up an appetite.”
Janeway ::thin, sardonic smile:: “One at a time. Keep the cordon firm but polite. We’re marines on security detail… even if dinner fits in your palm after dark.”
::She tapped her combadge.::
=/= Janeway to Albion. Cordon stable, civilians still antsy. Watches are down and it’s well past dinner. Any updated guidance from the evaluation team or Admiral? =/=
::The comm stayed quiet. Janeway took another spoonful and kept watch, the absurdity of eating palm-sized field rations on a “paradise” security detail not lost on her.::
