Location: supposedly starbase 40

ON:

Genno: =^="genno to mack. I am in the ready room so you can speak freely. I have assumed command since there does not
appear to be anyone my superior aboard."=^=

=^="mack to genno. acknowledged. do you know where were are or where the XO's are?"=^=

=^="well we were supposed to be going to starbase 40. we do appear to be nearby a starbase." =^=

mack: =^="you know I have always admired your diplomatic talents. that starbase does not look like any that I have seen before,
how about you?"=^=

genno: =^="I didn't realize you could determine that, from your apparent quarters-location. I am puzzled by the unfamiliar appearance."=^=

mack: =^=" some time ago I acquired a scanning interface set for my quarters. I was carrying out some other research. Lately I was
approved to continue such scans but I was not expecting to use them for this kind of purpose. The set is not Fleet Regulation
and has some interesting features, but otherwise networks with the ship's sensor array." =^=

genno: (facetiously) =^= "and you were planning to tell me about this, WHEN?" =^=

=^="well officially my orders came from elsewhere and I was told to keep them under my hat" =^=

genno: (smiling to herself slightly) =^=" lately, your hat appears to be growing in dimensions."

mack: =^=" perhaps. in any case I extend a general invitation to come by my quarters at your pleasure and have a look at my etchings. "=^=


genno: =^="Genno to computer. Locate commander Andrews."=^=

computer: "commander andrews is not aboard the Albion."

genno: "since how long ago?"

computer: "unable to provide that information. parts of the base data appear excluded from your security clearance."

genno: "you do know that I have assumed command."

computer: "yes commander. I was given explicit orders to not provide temporal information beyond time of day within
the currently 24 hour standard day period."

genno: =^="genno to mack. my attempts to access further relevant information have been denied because of some kind of
security order given to the ship's computer." =^=

mack: =^=" you're telling me. I was told what time it was, nothing more useful than that. Have you tried hailing the starbase?"=^=

genno: =^="under the circumstances I was not confident that hailing an unknown starbase, would be especially good tactical practice,
but I am willing to hear contrary suggestions. "=^=


mack: =^="perhaps I should come to your ready room." =^=

genno: =^=" Perhaps you should. Genno out."=^=


[genno emerges from the ready room]. "Helm, what course is laid in?"

helm: [examines instruments for a moment...then a moment longer] ..."well sir, I do not think there is a course laid in."

genno: "very well, please proceed to reconstruct whatever most recent helm instructions had been executed, by whom and when,
then notify me immediately if you find anything noteworthy. Coordinate with whatever bridge crew you regard necessary."

helm: ( suprised to have been delegated some degree of command )..."yes, sir, right away sir."

genno (to bridge in general): "mister mack will be joining me in the ready room, meanwhile please proceed as you were, and notify
me and the helm if you learn anything especially useful about our status. Helm, you have the con."

[helm leaves that station and assumes the con chair). The rest of the bridge crew briefly lock glances and return to their station
tasks. Presently Mack arrives in the turbo lift and proceeds directly to the ready room. the doors close behind him.]

con: "security, do we have any data on the status of the crew offboard?"

security office: "no sir, not at this time."

con: "please examine transporter logs for such information"

security officer: "we already tried that sir. the computer refused to give us the data."

con: "go down to engineering and see if you can access any logs from there."

security: "yes sir, I will personally try that." [exits the bridge on the turbo lift]

genno: "=^="commander to engineering. please expect bridge security and assist them in carrying out my orders at your
general station. genno out."=^=
