Mack: "Ensign Mack reporting for duty sir. I am assigned to science officer duty, but i can also serve the helm if you need. I can otherwise work on the sensors if those are more important while we are in the nebular region. Or of course if you have a more urgent need, I am here to serve. It is a pleasure and honor to serve with you sir."

" In the meantime I took the liberty of running some scans of short -range, long range and internal ship's systems. Here is some information that seems worth reporting:
Short-range scans did not detect any obvious ships nearby but the nebula are known for interfering with subspace communications and detection of warp signatures, so I am not
certain of that accuracy. Longer-range scans suggest that there may be some kind of federation base inside the nebula, which I gather is rare because of the typical interference in
communication. I am guessing without knowing for sure that it was intentionally located here for some reason not obvious. In any case my scan of communications was only
superficial and if ordered I can examine it with more detail.

Two other things appeared from my scans of internal ship's systems:

The helm appears to already have a course laid in and executed. The course did not appear to have been loaded from the local con, but perhaps rather had been loaded and executed
remotely from Fleet.

On the com system, there appears to be a substantial message addressed to you, with security "your eyes only" and at least one further attachment which appears to be encrypted in a manner not normally used in routine communications.

It seems odd but there may be more included details. The message size seems rather large so there is probably a lot of content in it. It is currently accessible
from your bridge command chair, your ready room and your quarters.
